Antigua Minister of Tourism Lovell reacted to the murder and assault on two British tourists by immediately saying the country needs to crack down on Immigrants, by making  immigration policies stricter and adding more bureaucracy to the process for visitors from other Caribbean Nations.

While the police admitted  no clue as the identity of the perpetrators, Mr. Lovell was busy covering the goverment’s deriliction of duty by convicting outsiders of the crime, on day one!

Lovell’s comments on yesterday’s TV broadcast exemplified the truth about a pervasive refusal to take responsibility on the part of the Antiguan government, for conditions which exist today in Antigua.

Outsiders are to blame for every ill the nation faces.  Antiguan xenophobia shows its ugly head again and again when there is a public crisis, such as the current lack of crime prevention, and the complete breakdown of a nearly non-existent criminal justice system.

Lovell’s attempt to shift the blame for the Antiguan condition, includes the idea of requiring a police record for entry and exit by  other Caribbean Nationals.  And yet all Foreign Nationals requesting the Antiguan police report, using the Antiguan drivers license for positive ID are refused!  Antiguans using the same form of ID are granted their police check form.  What’s good for the goose is not good for the gander!

Antigua has neither complied with, nor acted in the  cooperative spirit of recent Cari-com agreements they have signed, such as free movement of Cari- com Nationals between islands. Instead  they continue their refusal to accept responsibility for what their nation has become,   the total dysfunction of their customs and justice systems , both of which are riddled with corruption, mismanagement, and a general lack of regard for the conditions they have created for the public at large.

Instead of accepting responsibility for the conditions which allowed this heinous murder to take place at Coco Beach Resort, Mr Lovell now threatens the public by saying anyone who “overreacts” to this muder is “guilty of doing the nation grievous financial harm”. Newsflash Mr. Lovell; any grievous financial harm is a direct result of Antigua’s refusal to accept responsibility, and failure of the government to provide anything remotely resembling a working Criminal Justice system! Reporting the truth about fear, intimidation, corruption and incompetency, does not create it!

I suggest Antiguan government leaders such as Mr. Lovell will not have to modify immigration policy if they continue to be derelict in providing  basic services to the people of Antigua they are elected  to provide, such as  a working Criminal Justice System, roads, electricity, water, and such other basic services the people cannot provide for themselves.  There will be no need to worry about immigration because no one will come to an island where fear, supression of free speech, intimidation, and xenophobia rule.

Antigua advertises 365 beaches to attract  precious tourists to this once peaceful and safe island.  What Antiguan leaders want to hide is a stark reality of rampant and unabated crime, which culminated this weekend in the execution of a British couple who were according to sketchy information, visiting Antigua for, or after their wedding. The wife is dead! The husband lies in critical condition in the local hospital! According to reports the couple was tied and shot in the head by armed men in their cottage at the Coco Beach Resort.

A Mr. Lovell, Minister of Tourism, (I will not refer to him as the Hon. Mr. Lovell, because he is anything but honorable) showed his true colors this morning on a local TV station, when he urged the people of Antigua not to allow this to affect the islands precious tourism! I was shocked and appalled when he made the statement, “the British Press has not picked this story up which is a good thing”. 

Yes Mr. Lovell, lets hide the murder from the world.  Lets not hold responsible those in the Ministry who have done nothing to stop the erosion of police enforcement of law on this island for the past two years.  Sweep it under the table, and never ever speak about the truth of the state of affairs on Antigua relative to crime!  I just wonder how the family and friends of these  victims would feel hearing Mr. Lovell defend a totally inept police force, and most of all spend 30 minutes attempting to normalize a horrendous murder by siting statistics of crime on other islands, and encouraging anyone listening to treat this as some kind of aberration! IT IS NOT AN ABERRATION! It is a deadly serious condition of crime in Antigua affecting real people on a daily basis!

The vicious crime against persons and property occurring on now daily basis, could for the most part have been prevented!  Yes, Mr. Lovell I said prevented.  Crimes could have been prevented if those who hold elected office had of taken strong action  two years ago to insist the police, courts, and criminal justice system, do their prescribed job.  Instead they focused on the almighty dollar they could bring in by bending to any and every corporation who wanted to plow up this precious island and build hotels.  They focused on building a “front” for outsiders to see.  The front  is about nice paved streets, a huge cricket stadium the tax payers keep up, electricity in areas the outsiders will use,  and tourism which puts mega bucks in developers and their cronies pockets, leaving the islands people in abject poverty!

Behind the “front” is a crime and drug ridden society now taxed beyond their means to pay.  The government cannot even supply the basics of plentiful clean water and power to the people of Antigua, simply because they have other priorities.  They are approaching the same  status as Jamaica, where the tourists see the beaches and palms from behind wire fences, while the population is suffering from acute poverty and crime equaling that of a war!

By omission, the Ministers and police have allowed the criminals to take control of this island.  They continue to slant the truth, skirt around any direct responsibility, and Mr. Lovell, focus on the almighty tourist dollar.

This murder, rampant home invasions by armed masked men, police involved in the drug trade (fined when caught), car jacking, burglary so out of control it is near impossible to maintain a business in St. Johns, and complete breakdown of the criminal justice system, is square in the lap of the Antiguan people and their elected representatives.  This is what is happening no matter how you try to defend, misdirect, and spin the truth.  Congratulations, you have earned what have.

I offer my condolences and my heart goes out to the victims from abroad, and the Antiguan victims as well.  This is truely  a sad, sad, moment in our lives!

But to get an idea, consider the billions of dollars the major American Oil Companies have been making over the past three years. Now double that amount for just 2009 alone, and increase it for each year thereafter! These kinds of profits have never been made by anyone in history, because such a redistribution of wealth to so few, has the ultimate affect of toppling the worlds economy! The results can be nothing other than the pitting of haves against have nots. Acts called “Terroristic” will be the only meaningful weapon available to the have nots. Anarchy, deep divisions among the people of the world, and multiple wars on all continents can be the ONLY outcome. None of what I am telling you is a secret, nor is it a prediction. THE BLAME GAME
Establishment Press (being fed by the perps) has been the purveyor of multiple myths and accusations about the causes for the high price of oil today, and its ensuing destruction of world economies. Some of the most popular scapegoats are:

#2 Decreases in supply- need for expanded exploration/drilling.
#3 OPEC
#4 “Speculators”

A review and study of the above “causes” reveals some simple facts. The facts do not support the accusations. Supply is up. Demand is actually decreased from 2007. OPEC has increased production. Established reserves are not being drilled in spite of existing lease holds (holding out for higher prices). The Chinese and Indian economies have not developed to be the bad guys over night. Their consumption although increasing, is not related to the spike in oil prices I will site here. When you look at “speculators” no one know who they actually are! They are for all practical purposes, invisible or secret!

What the media has accomplished is to vilify the right people, “rounding up the usual suspects”. And the Congress of the United States is busy working the vilification as fast as they can to accomplish absolutely nothing, except to gain some votes doing their meaningless business as usual! The culprits will not be brought to world justice! They will accumulate massive riches associated with oil, I GUARANTEE IT!

So how about we take a wild stab to find our culprits, and look within our list of WINNERS? What about the idea that just maybe this SURGE IN oil price at this time IS NO MISTAKE! And stay with me; maybe the secret “manipulators” are none other than the same thieves who have been ripping you off all along. On July 1, the cost for refined fuel used by troops will jump from $127.68 a barrel to $170.94, an astounding 34 percent increase in just six months and more than double what the Pentagon was paying three years ago.

While prices charged to war fighting units have fluctuated in recent years, they have not faced such a steep spike in so few months. The cost of jet fuel, for example, jumped from $2.31 a gallon in October, the start of the 2008 budget year, to $3.04 in December. As of next month, units will start paying $4.07 a gallon.

If oil prices stay elevated as expected, the revenues would create a substantial surplus for Iraq at a time when Americans are facing an economic slump, aggravated by painfully high gas prices.

According to the center, every $1 increase in the market price per barrel translates into a $130 million rise in costs for the military because it relies so heavily on fuel. In Iraq alone, for example, the military consumes some 1.6 million gallons of fuel a day.

Oil consumption in 2008 is already below that of last year and, for the first time since the 1970s, a major expansion is underway on the Gulf Coast that will eventually bring the world’s largest refinery online.

As to the speculators, yes ,they play a role, but no mention of who is speculating and why. But to allow the comments by Saudi oil minister al Naimi that “Today there is no link between oil (market) fundamentals and prices” as reported by Morocco’s Ashraq al-Awast, boggles the mind. But wait, wait. We have also made our contribution to this clown’s “mise en scene.” As star player on our team is none other than our President Bush. His starring role has been fashioned by the following lines recited earlier this week and quoted by Reuters “Bush urges OPEC to weigh pain of high oil prices” 03.05.08: “My advice to OPEC — of course they haven’t listened to it — my advice to OPEC is understand the consequences of high energy prices, because I do,” Bush told reporters. Wha??

This from a President who –

- Who has seen the price of oil quadruple under his watch while doing virtually nothing to counter this vast increase.

- Has done virtually nothing to abate demand for fossil fuels during his presidency including the mandating of truly meaningful mileage standards for cars.

- Pushed Iraq to rejoin OPEC as practically the first order of business after the removal of Saddam Hussein.

- Never in a meaningful way caused OPEC to moderate their aggressive pricing policies.

- As the price of oil was slipping below $50 barrel, came to the oil industry and OPEC’s rescue by announcing a policy of doubling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (STP) in January 2007.

- Continuing to fill the STP irrespective of price causing the likes of Frank Verrastro of the Center of Strategic and International Studies to exclaim this past week that if the White House was truly interested in lowering oil prices it would stop sending crude oil into the STP. “If you’re begging people to put oil on the market why in the world are you taking it off?” Verrastro said, while probably scratching his head.

- Appointing as Secretary of Energy a like able but untested personage as Sam Bodman whose naiveté on how things work caused his Energy Department to respond to criticism about continuing filling the SPR even in the face of President Bush’s comments by saying “reserve shipments are minuscule.” Thus they betrayed a total lack of understanding of how markets function, exacerbated with Bodman’s simplistic comment “Look, the price of oil is set in the trading rooms in New York and London and Tokyo and Frankfurt and all around the world”. Bodman continued, “Whatever it is, it is.” No comprehension whatsoever that the United State by word and deed as the largest consumer of oil by far in the world, had the means to influence the mind set and temper of those “trading rooms.”

If President Bush means when he says he understands the consequences of high energy prices is that his friends in the oil industry are doing fabulously well and the oil companies are raking it in and that OPEC is setting up Sovereign Wealth Funds to buy America, well then, he hit the nail right on the head. As for the rest us, I think we understood a long time ago what he really means, by what he claims to understand when it comes to oil prices.

Wings Courier Service and its owner Mr. Warner, can simply be a major rip off. Warner has a special record of ripping off merchants who make the mistake of having him broker their goods into Antigua.

One merchant told of Warner’s tricks hiring a truck to take goods from the harbor and deliver to the retailer. Although he may pay $100 xcd to the contractor, he will in turn bill his client $600 xcd, and then brow beat them into paying his bill. His charges for services are often no where near competitive. He extracts as much as possible from clients until he looses them. Few local business people with experience deal with Wings. New merchants, and whites from out of country are his main prey!

Just a word of caution here, beware of Wings and Mr. Warner. Use alternatives when you can. This applies to his U.S. postal box service as well! His billing for “extra” charges and services is nothing short of stealing! Yes, the word for his behavior is “thief”.

Why no one tells the truth about this incompetent and dangerous person!

With practice, I learned I can tell more about a person by quiet presence, close attention, and physical observation, than by their words alone. Take a good look at this person and you may see the truth.

My read: Anger, nastiness, needs sexual relief, has bad breath, poor bodily development considering her heritage, dresses and acts sexist, arrogance, one of the boys, believes her own thinking, needs acceptance and a social climber who is never satisfied. Is not happy - ever! Does not know what fun is.

Condoleezza Rice was in charge of America’s national security prior to 9/11. Her job was to know about security threats to the United States of America, advise the administration of same, and recommend actions to prevent attacks on the country. As in her employment history, she is no record setter in terms of efficiency or competence. BOOM!

If Rice had this job in China, they would have hanged her for incompetence. If she had this job in Japan, she would have committed suicide by sword, or resigned in disgrace. In America she was promoted to head of the Department of State, perhaps the most important position in the Administration next to President.

Her new job is to represent the United States around the world. To interact with the worlds heads of state. Additionally she is a primary mover in the direction taken by the U.S. foreign policy. No wonder the U.S. is not respected or even liked by most of the people of the world today! Is this the best you can muster?

Listen to what she says now. Here are a few examples:

If they simply do what we want, we will leave them alone and not invade. (translation is “My way or the highway”).

We should not have talks with them. He should not talk to them. There is no point in talking to them. (translation: Understanding and cooperation through communication is not on our agenda, or “My way or the highway”).

The Antiguan Customs department may not have one honest Customs Agent! Bribery is rampant and has been for many years. And sadly, everyone knows it! Putting $100 xcd in a pile of documents before handing them to the agent works well for some Syrian businessmen in St. Johns according to one eye witness.

Last I heard Mr. Brown was in charge of Customs. He like many other Antiguan men who reached positions of power, likes to make special arrangements for women who he takes a fancy to. He promises them personal help in getting their refund due from the government for Customs overcharges. My understanding is you never get one dime returned, and Mr. Brown may have ulterior (or maybe its posterior) motives.

The system at deep water harbor is so chaotic and dysfunctional, it is often impossible to get shorted items without paying for the entire manifest twice. Business owners go through a maze of bureaucracy to get a shipment in, and are subject to abuse of power by the officers who work there. An honest business person may find it impossible to continue to do business without capitulating to the corrupt culture at the harbor!

Not only do Antiguans pay a premium for imported goods because of the “extra”duty going in corrupt officers pockets, they pay increased prices because an officer can set item value on a whim.

One such case involved the importation of “close out” cell phone cases with a wholesale cost of 50 cents U.S.. Those cases went to the public the first time around for $5 ec. This covered import duties and shipping costs and provided a small profit. The next shipment of cases arrived and the customs officer refused to allow them to be valued at the documented cost! His explanation was, “that is too cheap”. After the merchant paid the “new” duty based now on a wholesale cost of $2 U.S. (the value set arbitrarily by the officer), and all his costs, he ended up scraping the cases at a loss. Antiguans are denied the benefit of bargains because their own Customs Agency has a history of inflating prices at will!

The routine of Customs corruption is known by most all Antiguans. Yet nothing is done, nor has been done, to eliminate it. Although a simple undercover operation carried out by Scotland Yard, or an outside agency available for exactly this type of law enforcement work, could easily provide many names of corrupt officers, it does not happen! I challenge someone in power to do undercover “sting” at the deep water harbor! If five or more Officers are not found to be taking bribes I will make a full apology to the entire department!

And what about the Ministry Customs falls under? Widespread corruption continues and the Ministry does nothing! Why?

One answer may be the same as the answer to the question about prosecution in the case of the Medical Benefits Scheme. I am not aware one person going to jail after a massive scandel involving many well know Antiguans. Hundreds of thousands of government dollars were misused, misdirected, and simply stolen from the Medical Scheme! It took the action of an honest American doctor to put light on that case and the corrupt locals in charge!

Antiguans seem to be big on complaining about the other guy who was in power, but when it comes to action, and prosecution, apparently they fear what goes around comes around. No one goes to jail! No one is indicted! The practice of using one’s power for personal aggrandizement. or plain illicit gain, is just accepted by the people of this nation! Acceptance seems to be the answer!

It is near impossible to operate a legitimate business in Antigua, if it depends on importing goods for resale through the harbor bureaucracy and corrupt officers. How can a legitimate retailer compete with those who have learned to make pay offs to get their goods through? In addition, legitimate retailers report massive losses of the goods stored at the harbor waiting for customs clearance! Boxes and their contents just disappear.

This story will come as no surprise to most Antiguan residents. That is the real shame of it all. It is like an elephant in the room and no one is talking about it. It’s time to put some light on Antiguan Customs officers, their respective leaders, and the elected Ministers in charge!

Big Oil Poised To Do Business With Iraq

Royal Dutch Shell, Chevron, Exxon Mobil And BP Could See Advantage Over Others In The Future

These are no bid contracts with firms who were kicked out by Saddam Hussein. The other 50 or so companies which have been helping the Iraqis during reconstruction, and which had similar agreements, are not going to share in the oil revenues. The other companies mostly based in Russia, France, or other countries which were not part of the war monger coalition led by the U.S. and Brittan.

Additional untapped fields in Iraq may offer up even more substantial profits in the future for these selected oil companies, who are today benefiting from world fears, regional destabilization, and self induced shortages in supply. Although these same companies hold thousands of acres of land with proven reserves of oil in North America, they have not invested in drilling, nor increasing production on existing leases. This is the final card linking Bush (including family oil interests), Chaney, Haliburton, Exxon, Shell, Chevron, BP, the military complex, and a substantial number of lessor oil players, including the Bin Laudens, to the invasion of the sovergn nation of Iraq.

The big payoff continues for some like Haliburton, and is just beginning for the primary movers, big oil!

Dead and maimed American stooges (the uneducated and poor who did not know better than to enlist), pawns in the game, hundreds of thousands of injured or dead Iraqis, including women and children, three million displaced Iraqis, oil at $144 a barrel, the world paying the price for this war in every commodity they buy, starvation, world food shortages, and a falling dollar with no bottom in site!

George Bush has just asked the U.S. Congress to lift existing limits on drilling in critical areas off shore and in the Arctic.

His argument is Democrats, Environmentalists, and those who opposed rapid expansion of oil leases, have created the high price of oil by allowing unstable and unfriendly regimes around the world to control the oil supply.

This takes the cake! Any half wit knows those regimes were not unfriendly nor unstable before the Bush Administration went to war and began “ruling the world” with the “my way, or the highway” mentality!

Apple offers a rebate of $100 when you purchase a i Mac and a Canon printer. I recently bought a new i Mac and the Cannon printer, but received no rebate as promised. Apple tells lies!

I found the process to obtain the rebate a series of HOOPS one jumps through, with the bone at the end ($100). And although I read a number of warnings like this one online, prior to purchase, I jumped through a number of the HOOPS before giving up on my “bone”.

HOOP #1
Filled out online form with all the blanks completed, including serial and proof of purchase.

HOOP #2
Submitted a tear off portion from the boxes, with proof of purchase numbers, and mailed them as directed to the rebate center along with another form.

Hoop #3
Received a letter from the rebate center with new forms to fill out, giving identical information. I complied. No rebate.

HOOP #4
When no rebate appeared, I emailed the rebate center with my information.

HOOP #5 Received a call from a nice lady at the rebate center who said who said she would pass the problem on to Apple. A moron named Mr. Applewhite (wouldn’t you know), called me and said he was a Corporate Executive Relations Manager, and he would research my problem and help me.

In time, Applepolisher (a more appropriate name) called and said he had gone over all my transaction records, and all the information was received, however they would need me to mail the proof of purchase number from the box again, and it must be received in a couple of days because the “deadline” was approaching. I was overseas, and with the proof of purchase in my hand, asked Mr. Applewhite what good that would do, since the numbers and information I submitted would be the same as on the actual box stub #2 I was holding? He mumbled something unintelligible (referred to Apple script dealing with customers who do not cave in to senseless requests) and said, “this is the only way to get your rebate”.

Jesus H Christ! You got to wonder a company like Apple cannot empower someone like Applewhite (or maybe someone with a brain), to make a decision and give me my rebate! I was not willing to go through another HOOP to get my bone. The mail would not reach America in time. I told Mr. Applewhite I did not appreciate Apple lying to me. He said “Apple does not lie”. I said they either give me the rebate as promised, or they don’t. And if they don’t, after I have followed all the procedures, they are lying! He then told me that they were not obligated unless I followed Apple’s Terms and Conditions! (This also comes out of the corporate book of speak as a cover all, which only the “Dream Team” of lawyers can refute). I told this bozo he could stick the terms and conditions up his *@%^&. For some reason the poor man terminated our conversation. I did not get my bone! Poor me, $100 U.S. dollars shorted, now I can’t buy a cup of coffee!

Apple has gone the way of Dell, focusing on the bottom line and the short term. Dell moved its service off shore, to foreign call centers, where little is accomplished in terms of customer service, except pissing people off. Apple is on the identical course, with short term thinking and a long term disaster sure to follow. I wondered how the Apple company I knew 20 years ago could hire an idiot who was so removed from planet earth, like Mr. Applewhite. Maybe it was his name? Then I remembered they put Steve Jobs in a closet for an office, when they tried to get him to quit years ago. Maybe this job they gave Applewhite was about the worst thing they could do to him?

So Apple lies. Would I buy another Apple product? NO! Is the computer any good? Yes. Does it have drawbacks, yes, just as the PC does. The printer is excellent.

I recently purchased a new digital camera. I did not buy a Canon, although they had the best reviews.

I am using the power of light informing others, and a personal boycott against Canon and Apple, who lie and promote a culture which says its OK not to keep our word. The bottom line is more important than being a good Corporate Citizen, and setting an example for all others. If you support half truths and deceptive practices, continue to buy Apple and Canon products. If truth is a word you still understand as a worthwhile value, buy other brands.
